The La Plata Police Department has partnered with the Public Safety Cadets (PSC) program. Public Safety Cadets is for young men and women aged 14 to 20 years old, preparing for careers and leadership in the public safety profession. PSC Unit 1888 is focused towards the Law Enforcement profession career path. Cadets are ready to investigate the meaning of interdependence in their personal relationships and communities and embrace the PSC motto of "Preparing to Serve & Protect".

Mentoring young adults to serve their communities by providing knowledge, skills and practical experiences through education and training delivered by public safety professionals that build character, physical fitness, and respect for the rule of law and human and civil rights.
