The La Plata Police Department has partnered with the Boy Scouts of America through its Learning for Life Exploring program. Exploring is Learning for Life's career education program for young men and women aged 14 to 20 years old. Exploring's purpose is to provide experiences to help young people mature and prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Explorers are ready to investigate the meaning of interdependence in their personal relationships and communities.
There are four specific goals for Explorers:
- Gain practical experience in the career interest of the post.
- Engage in program activities centered on the five emphasis areas (career opportunities, life skills, citizenship, character education, leadership experience) to encourage the development of the whole person.
- Experience positive leadership from adult and youth leaders and have the opportunity to take on leadership roles.
- Have a chance to learn and grow in a supportive, caring, and fun environment.
Young men and women interested in the Explorer Program should contact Corporal Jason Posey at 301-934-1500.
