Each year the La Plata Town Council meets to discuss its service priorities for the coming fiscal year. Additionally, the Citizens of La Plata participate regularly in the Town's Citizen Survey to comment on Town Services and Community Perceptions. The Financial Plan/Budget has been structured to emphasize the service priorities of the Town, and to provide resources for the staff to address those areas. The Town's budget covers its General fund and self-supporting enterprise funds including Sanitation, Water, Sewer, and Storm Water.
